Education Foundation announces new board members
The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation has announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Charles Young is an internationally-recognized leader of higher education who served as the Chancellor of UCLA for nearly 30 years.
During his time at UCLA, Young partnered with the community of Los Angeles and championed efforts to reform K-12 education there. Young has also served as president of the University of Florida and President of the Qatar Foundation, which established a unique Education City offering branches of some of the world’s leading universities in the Arabian Gulf. Jean Barnier is a trial lawyer who began her career as an investigative broadcast journalist and then became a teacher. When she moved to Sonoma, Barnier joined the founding team for the Sonoma Charter School and served as a board member. She taught middle school and high school English and history at the Head Royce School in Oakland, and obtained her law degree in 2003.
Will Deeths has served as a history teacher and activities director at Petaluma Junior High School, assistant principal at Petaluma High School and is currently principal at Altimira Middle School.
