An early morning fire all but razed a house in Boyes Hot Springs Monday morning.

There were no injuries in the blaze in the 800 block of Escondido Court.

According to a report from Battalion Chief Mark Freeman, with the Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority, firefighters got the call at 1:38 a.m. and took about 45 minutes to get the blaze under control. Firefighters spent about three hours at the scene, although the fire marshal was still on scene mid-morning Monday.

According to Freeman, the blaze is still under investigation.

Battalion Chief Spencer Andreis said the structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene. Crews managed to contain the blaze to the house and prevent it from spreading. “The crews did a great job of protecting adjacent homes,” he said.

Andreis said the homeowner, Roy Jimenez, told fire personnel that he thought the blaze started under the deck. The fire marshal

wasn’t able to gain access to the charred remains because it was too dangerous.

“We condemned the structure,” Andreis said. “Structurally, it just wasn’t sound.”

The loss estimate was in excess of $100,000.

In addition to Sonoma Valley firefighters, the Glen Ellen and Schell-Vista fire departments were on the scene providing mutual aid.
