Seeking their first Sonoma County League win after dropping their SCL opener and watching their overall record dip to 2-3, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity football boys will host new league foe Piner in tonight’s homecoming game at Arnold Field.
Following the junior varsity game, which starts at 5, the varsity clash will kick off at 7:30 p.m., preceded by homecoming festivities, which will continue at halftime.
Sonoma’s opponent tonight, Piner, switched over from the North Bay League to the SCL along with Elsie Allen based on school enrollment sizes, while much larger Casa Grande and Windsor join the NBL.
The Dragons will be coming off a much-needed bye-week after they were overpowered in their SCL opener in Sebastopol by undefeated league front-runner Analy.
In nonleague action, the Sonoma gridders posted a 2-2 record by shutting out visiting Redwood in the preseason opener; being edged in the waning minutes on the road by Terra Linda; nipping San Marin in a high-scoring home-thriller; and being blanked at American Canyon.
After tonight’s homecoming game, the Dragons hit the road for a league showdown in Healdsburg next Friday night, Oct. 12, before returning home to host league foe El Molino Friday evening, Oct. 19, at Arnold Field.
Sonoma ends its regular season playing SCL foes Elsie Allen in Santa Rosa on Friday, Oct. 26, and hosting longtime rival Petaluma at Arnold Field on Friday, Nov. 2.
