Wrapping up their Sonoma County League dual-match season with a strong effort in their home finale, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity wrestlers broke open a close match with five straight one-sided wins, including three pins, en route to a 53-21 victory over SCL foe El Molino Wednesday night in Golton Hall.
Before hitting the mat and evening its SCL dual-match record to 3-3, Sonoma honored its four seniors, including Victor Virgen, Jorge Oros, Paul Pizano and Austin Erickson.
Leading the Dragons’ dual-triumph over El Molino were Erickson’s 6-4 victory over Rivera at 162 pounds; junior Peter Gray’s third-round pin-win over Pamstrech at 108; freshman Jake Randuch’s second-round pinning of Stanifod at 115; sophomore Harris Meglen’s 15-0 technical-fall victory over Caswell at 122; junior tri-captain Giordi Serafini’s 9-3 triumph over Grajeda at 128; junior tri-captain Sam Denning’s second-round pin-win over Rodenberg at 134; sophomore Max Schimm’s first-round pinning of Torano at 147; forfeit wins by senior Jorge Oros at 184, junior tri-captain Aidan Lacy in the heavyweight division, and frosh Alyssa Christian at 197; Virgen’s 20-8 defeat to Christensen at 222; junior Alex Ohan’s 19-2 technical-pin loss to Borgas at 154; and frosh Jack Biaggi’s loss by injury to Lopez at 140.
The Dragon wrestlers are on a current 10-day break in preparation for the competitive SCL championships taking place on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Casa Grande in Petaluma.
