Dragon thinclads compete in Ukiah

Sonoma netters host finale today

A dozen Sonoma Valley High School cross country boys and girls tuned up for their Sonoma County League and regular season finales – taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Santa Rosa against El Molino and host Elsie Allen – by competing in Saturday’s annual Ukiah Invitational.

Coming off impressive SCL dual-wins last Wednesday, a team-minimum five Sonoma varsity girls combined to claim a tourney third-place, while the only two varsity Dragon boys ran for an imcomplete score, and five junior varsity boys took a jayvee third-place.

The Lady Dragons were led by senior Gianna Biaggi’s ninth-place finish in 22 minutes, .08 seconds; senior Laura Amador’s 13th in 23:21; freshman Madeline Libbey’s 18th in 24:25; senior Serena Spry’s 26th in 26:08; and frosh Brianna Lehane’s 30th in 23:36.

Pacing the Dragon varsity boys were senior Chris Tose’s fifth-place in 17:32, and junior Christian Martinez’s eighth in 17:47.

The Sonoma jayvee boys were led vy senior Peter Gray’s seventh in 20:09; sophomore Ian Sloop’s ninth in 20:13; frosh Ty Haury’s 10th in 20:13; sophomore Return Bongiovanni’s 32nd in 23.19; and junior Bailey Zellers’ 35th in 23:44.

The tennis Lady Dragons, with a 7-4 record, hope to register an SCL third-place hold when they host El Molino in their league finale at 3:30 p.m. today at the high school courts.

Before today’s first match, Sonoma will honor its seniors, including Marissa Brooks, Jessica Johnston, Jessica Marioni, Regina Mellinger, Raquel Rios-Gomez, Anna Robles, Dolma Sherpa, Lindsey Slack and Francesca Stornaiuolo.
