Dragon spikers third in Paganini

The Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon spikers came in third in its own Greg Paganini Invitational Tournament last Saturday.
Cardinal Newman won the 30-team tourney while Vintage High School from Napa was second and the Lady Dragons were third.
Sonoma opened play beating Liberty, from Brentwood, 25-12, 24-26 and 15-8. Next up was San Rafael and the Dragons dispatched the Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-8 and 25-9.
The Dragons then beat Montgomery 25-19, 14-25 and 15-6. Petaluma was next up and the Dragons topped the Trojans 25-16, 15-25 and 15-10.
The Dragons then fell to tourney champ Cardinal Newman taking the first match 25-22, but dropping the last two, 13-25 and 6-15.
Tuesday, the Lady Dragon swept new league foe, Elsie Allen in straight games, 25-5, 25-3 and 25-6.
Last Thursday, Sept. 20, Sonoma needed only three games to top another new league foe, Piner. The scores were 25-5, 25-6 and 25-20.
Sonoma entertained Petaluma last night (Thursday) but results weren’t available at press-time. On Saturday, the spikers will be competing in the Concord Invitational in Concord.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 2, they have a bye before returning to action on Thursday, Oct. 4, when they entertain El Molino.
