Nov 15, 2012 - 02:33 PM

The Sonoma Valley High School’s 2012-13 winter sports seasons for basketball and wrestling recently began, and the Sonoma girls jumped into hoops action with scrimmages yesterday against visiting San Marin and in tomorrow’s, Saturday, Nov. 17, annual preseason Justin-Siena Scramble in Napa.

The Lady Dragons will then host nonleague Cardinal Newman in the annual Foundation Game this Tuesday night, Nov. 20, when the Sonoma boy cagers, who’ve also been scrimmaging, play their Foundation Game against nonleague Casa Grande in Petaluma.

On Wednesday, Nov. 21, the third annual Lady Dragons volleyball and basketball alumnae match and game doubleheader takes place in Pfeiffer Gym, with the spikers starting at 6:30, and the cagers playing at 8 p.m.

Any Lady Dragon alumna interested in playing volleyball can contact Sonoma head volleyball coach Mindy Neves at 548-4776 or email at sonomavalleyball@gmail.com, while Sonoma’s hoops alumnae can contact Sheila Brady at 287-9571 or email at SheilaABrady@yahoo.com.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 24, both Sonoma hoop programs open the nonleague portion of their regular season, with the Dragon boys hosting Ukiah at 7:30 p.m. in Pfeiffer Gym, while the Lady Dragons play at Novato.

As for Sonoma’s wrestling program, it currently continues working out in preparation for an early December start, with the annual parents meeting slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Sonoma Valley High School Library.
