It’s been a rough nonleague preseason for Sonoma Valley High School’s young varsity boys’ basketball team, with its latest bumps in the road being a pair of losses in the first two rounds of this past weekend’s Eureka Tournament.

But the Dragons finally had an offensive outburst in scoring 23, 19 and 24 points in the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively, to snap their six-game losing streak with a runaway 79-56 victory over Mt. Diablo on Saturday.

In last Thursday’s tourney opener, Dragons dropped a 69-34 decision to Arcata, followed by a 53-36 second-round loss to Shasta on Friday – individual results for the three games weren’t available at presstime.

Comprising the Sonoma varsity boys’ roster – directed by head coach Dennis Housman and assistant coaches Drue Jacobs, Pete Livingston, Sal Chavez and Casey Moll – are senior Vince Bruton; juniors Vincent Albano Dario Minatta, Jack Murphy, Matt Robinson and Jesse Summers; and sophomores Cyle Gusse, Alex Gustafson, Tristan Mertens, Trevor Welch and Ryan Wilbanks.

The Dragon boy cagers will host nonleague San Marin this Friday night, Dec. 21, in Pfeiffer Gym – freshmen start at 6 and the varsity tips off at 7:30 p.m. – before the varsity Dragons compete in the annual, and challenging, Marin Catholic Tournament in Kentfield from Dec. 26, through Dec. 29.
