The first time they met was the Sonoma County League opener and the visiting Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball boys, holding a game-long lead at Healdsburg, fell into foul trouble and were denied a hard-fought win by being nipped 49-48 at the buzzer.

Last night in Pfeiffer Gym, the Dragons hosted Healdsburg in the rematch and this time they trailed from the start, mustering only 13 first-half points for an eight-point deficit, which they cut in half with an 18-14 third-quarter run, and then battled to within one-point of finally tying the showdown.

But, again, the game came down to the wire and, when junior John Buckley’s three-pointer at the buzzer just rimmed out, Sonoma again came up short, dropping a 46-43 decision to the Greyhounds.
