For the 17th time, the Sonoma Valley High School varsity basketball girls are hosting their annual Dragon Classic, which features teams from the North Bay, the East Bay and the San Francisco Peninsula.

Sonoma’s competitive eight-team tournament tipped off last night in Pfeiffer Gym – result not available at presstime – and continues this evening with semifinals and loser’s bracket games, before concluding with the championship finals tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Dec. 1.

Tonight’s tourney games feature the opening-round winners of yesterday’s first-round matchups with the hosting Lady Dragons facing Terra Linda, and defending champion San Marin versus Vintage, at 5:30, followed by the victors of Analy playing Northgate, and Montgomery battling Menlo-Atherton, at 7 p.m.

Yesterday’s first-round losers play today at 4 and 8:30 p.m., respectively.

Saturday’s Dragon Classic title game between tonight’s semifinal winners takes place at 6 p.m., preceded by the seventh-place game at 1:30, the consolation championship at 3, and the third-place showdown at 4:30 p.m.

Also currently competing in tournaments are Sonoma’s junior varsity and freshman girls’ hoops teams, with the jayvee and frosh Lady Dragons playing in the Pittsburg Tourney and Newman Jamboree, respectively.
