Dorothy B. Kearn

Dorothy B. Kearn was born in Chicago on May 15, 1921.

She met her husband, Joe “Meaders” Kearn, in New Jersey and they married in 1942. Dorothy had always wanted to live in San Francisco, and after World War II they did in fact move there. They first lived in North Beach and then bought a house on Mt. Davidson in Miraloma Park, where their children were born.  They moved to Sonoma in the 1960s and have lived there ever since.

Dorothy believed strongly in volunteer work, and through the years she worked at the St. Francis Church rummage sales, Pets Lifeline and Meals On Wheels.

She wanted it known that she “heard the beat of a different drum.”  She died one day after her 91st birthday on May 16, 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula Kearn (Eric) Bennett, of Sebastopol; and her son and granddaughter, Chrisman Kearn and Dawn Rose Kearn, both of Vermont.  She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann Van Pelt, and many nieces and nephews in the Bay Area.  She was preceded in death by her husband.

Donations may be made in her name to, Hospice By The Bay, 190 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476 or to Pets Lifeline, P.O. Box 341, Sonoma, CA 95476.

Private Interment was held at St. Francis Cemetery, Sonoma.
