Donna Youngdahl, 84, passed peacefully into eternity in the early morning of Aug. 19, 2012, in Redding. She was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Pennsylvania to Rev. Thomas and Freda Johnson and graduated nursing school there.

  She moved to Sonoma in 1962 and raised four children there. She attended Sonoma State University and graduated with a degree in sociology in 1975.

  She then moved to Sacramento and worked for the State of California Health Department.

  Donna was an avid reader and a great fan of historical fiction. She was a life-long Scrabble player and loved camping in Yosemite National Park with friends and family. She is remembered for her zest for life, love of music, hearty laugh and caring for others.

  Donna is survived by her children and their spouses, Susan and David Nicoson, Steven and Lauralee Youngdahl, Coleman and Betsy Youngdahl, and Laura and Roger Grass. As well as nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric, Chase, Fawn, Kent, Michael, Anne, Katie and Rob; six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and her sister, Shirley Youngdahl.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Freda Johnson; and brother, Earl Johnson.

  There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. at 1 p.m., at the Sonoma United Methodist Church, 109 Patten St., Sonoma, CA.

  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library, 755 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476-6412, or your favorite charity.
