Culinary cooks up strong support for schools

The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation and the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce leadership training program teamed up for a lunch at the Culinary Department at Sonoma Valley High School in early November. Brigitta Crews and her students were lauded for the lunch they served using skills from the recent salad and appetizers units. The purpose of the meeting was a presentation on “Stepping Stones for Student Success and Achievement for Sonoma Schools,” and on the funding support required. School Superintendent Louann Carlomagno and former UCLA Chancellor Chuck Young were the key speakers, with several students also participating. Culinary students prepared the meal, set the tables and did all the serving. Pictured, from left, are Sonoma Valley High seniors Suleika Perez-Usher, Sydney Calderwood and Samantha Richards.
