Cook Vineyard weekly newsletter 9.24.12
This year’s crop has looked great from the beginning. Last year’s lower yields allowed more wood to be formed, in layman’s terms this means the vines did not stress due to a heavy crop. Our weather was picture perfect and even now due to great weather predicted at least for the next 14 days, many wine makers are waiting to harvest to give the grapes the much needed flavors.
Vintage 2012 is looking to be one of the best in at least this century (12 years)
Every year one variety does better than the rest. This year it is The Pinot Noir. In all the years we have been farming we haven’t seen crops in the Pinot Noir like this year. Many times we worry about big crops bringing down the quality, but this is not the case with the Pinot this year.
So if you like Pinot Noir, Drink up because there is going to be a lot of it.
