Cook Vineyard Weekly Newsletter 4.9.12
This week they are calling for more rain. April showers are not uncommon, but a few systems this week will more than just showers. Another week of rain won’t hurt us, but will delay some of the growth due to cooler weather. It is too early in the season to be concerned and the rain may be somewhat beneficial.
After this week’s rain events we will begin our fungicide programs along with mowing and disking the vineyards. The moisture in the soil may delay some of these tasks for another week.
Vintage 2012 seems to be beginning slowly. Most would say we are three to four days behind last year in growth. As the days get longer and things warm up, we are all going to be busy in the vineyards catching up for the lost time during these rain events.
On the bright side, when there is rain we don’t worry about frost.
