Cook Vineyard Weekly Newsletter 4.30.12

Apr 30, 2012 - 11:32 AM

2012 has been an interesting growing year. The late rains followed by the hot spell sent the vines into a fast growing cycle. For the past few weeks we have been suckering the vines (removing the trunk suckers along with the basil buds in the fruiting zone).

The weather has been unusually warm so we are not concerned with any frost events in the near future and are hoping that the frost is over.

We will finish our suckering program this week and begin to tuck the shoots next week. If the warm weather continues we may begin lateral removal in two weeks.

The question we are asked a lot this time of year “Are we behind last year’s growth” Can be easily answered by we are in a faster growth cycle than the past few years and may be a little ahead of a normal year.

If anyone wants to visit us in the vineyards to learn more about the world of viticulture, please call us at 707.490.8921. Also check our website  www.cvmgrapes.com.
