Confidence in Susan Gorin
Editor, Index-Tribune:
When I read your endorsement of John Sawyer for 1st District Supervisor I had to chuckle. Apparently your objection or “certain distaste” to Susan Gorin is based solely on her moving into the district. At a time when redistricting has caused so many Assembly and Senate candidates to “pick up stakes” and move their residences, this seems pretty lame. Are you going to use this litmus test for all candidates??
During the primary debates, which I attended, I was struck by Susan Gorin’s knowledge and resume. I am impressed with her past work with nonprofits, as mayor and member of the Santa Rosa City Council and her record on the environment and regional planning as a member of ABAG.
She is knowledgeable and savvy when it comes to understanding local government. She understands water, transportation, land use issues and strategic investments in public infrastructure. ?
Her opponent, John Sawyer, is supported by the business-as-usual interests, including a recent $47,000 contribution from the California Real Estate Independent Expenditure Committee, based in Los Angeles. This is surely an indicator of where his loyalties will lie if elected.?
I worked at the county for almost 20 years and know that we need a Supervisor who can represent Sonoma Valley and the citizens of Sonoma County well. I have every confidence that Susan Gorin is that person.
