It is time to dive into the nearest recycling bin and start preparing for the Sonoma Community Center's second annual Trashion Fashion Show to be held on Saturday, April 21. Ecologists, artists, designers and fashionistas are all invited to create haute couture from recycled materials or repurposed clothing from the nearest thrift store.

This is your chance to strut your stuff on the catwalk and show how fun, innovative and beautiful recycled fashions can be.

A total of $1,250 will be awarded including $250 for "Best in Teen Category."

This call to artists is open to all individuals or groups.  The application deadline is 5 p.m., March 10. A prospectus and application may be downloaded at www.sonomacommunitycenter.org or picked up at the Sonoma Community Center office, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma or call 938-4626, ext. 1.

The Trashion Fashion Show was inspired by the center's commitment to promoting sustainable living.

"Trashion is a fashion philosophy that combines environmentalism with innovation. It springs from a desire to make the best use of limited resources by making traditional and avant-garde clothing or objects from recycled materials or cast-off junk. The work created for last year's Trashion show event was so spectacular, surpassing my wildest dreams. I can't wait to see what people create this year," said special projects manager Margaret Hatcher.

For more information about the Sonoma Community Center, call 938-4626, ext. 1, e-mail scc@vom.com or visit www.sonomacommunitycenter.org.

Sonoma Community Center exists to enrich the lives of the people of Sonoma Valley by fostering a broad range of cultural, educational and community services, and by the preservation of the historic building.
