For the ninth time, Sonoma Raceway will be the venue for the Classic Sports Racing Group’s annual Charity Challenge race weekend, which begins with practice and qualifying tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 6, and culminates with vintage car racing on the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course this Sunday, Oct. 7.

With proceeds from this race weekend benefitting the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, the charitable arm of the raceway, more than 200 vintage racecars will be featured, including the Formula Car Invitational, encompassing Historic Formula One, Formula Two, Formula Atlantic and Super Vees. Also on the schedule is the V8 Thunder Challenge for Historic Trans-Am cars; Historic NASCAR, V8-powered sports cars; and IMSA GTU and SCCA U2 Trans-Am /2.5 Challenge sedans up to 1972; with memorable makes such as Lotus, Alfa Romeo, MG, Lola, Porsche, Austin Healey and Jaguar highlighting the action.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $25 each day or $40 for a two-day pass.

For a $50 to $250 donation, fans can take a thrilling, three-lap ride around the world famous road course in one of some 30 different participating race cars. The Charity Track Rides will begin at 12:45 p.m. each day and are on a first-come basis.

The race weekend will also feature a charity raffle with all proceeds benefiting SCC. Raffle tickets can be purchased in the Panasonic Technology Center, adjacent to the Wine Country Winner's Circle in the main paddock.
