Greetings Sonoma! I hope this finds you enjoying the warm days we’ve been having. It’s summertime. Monday was our first day of summer camp, which is one of my favorite days of the year.

A dozen or so kids from ages 6 to 12, full of anticipation and excitement, appear at 9 a.m., to come together and make new friends. All of them have chosen to be here, so there is a an instant comradery and bond established by the excellent choice they all made to come to the Pets Lifeline Camp as the first activity of the summer.

Mary Green keeps them entertained with art projects, videos, kittens and play time, and on Wednesday it’s “guest day,” when different animal groups come to visit. This week, our own Deanna Schwab with Torpedo the Wonder Dog came for a visit and wowed the crowd. Torpedo is always a hit with the kids.

Speaking of wonder dogs, our next dog classes start in July and are filling up fast. If you are thinking about training with your wonder dog, please go to our website and sign up now.

Are you in the market for a small dog? We seem to be the little dog haven right now. We have more than nine little dogs right now that are weary of being in a shelter. They are all sweet wonderful pooches! There’s Lucy, Timmy, Jerri, Bear, Linus, Belle, Lorenzo and Manny, who are all Chihuahua mixes (Manny is a chug or a Chihuahua-pug mix). And then there’s Oreo, our precious little Boston Terrier mix. So anyone out there who is thinking of a smaller dog, please come by and meet our boys and girls. Maybe you’ll fall in love – who knows.

I want to send out a special thank you to everyone who attended our Paws for a Cause dinner party on Sunday night, held at the spectacular Vintage Kennel Club. Brian Ness and Michael Weiss opened their hearts and their home to Pets Lifeline for this event and it was a smashing success, raising some much-needed funds for the shelter. You, too, can help the animals with whatever donation it is in your heart to give. If you received our 30th anniversary fundraising letter with our ambassadors Rufus and Martha (dog and cat), just use the return envelope or go to our website and click on the 30th anniversary logo on the top of our home page.

Our 30th anniversary party on July 28, the Bark in the Park and Pooch Promenade, is coming along quite nicely. This will be an all-day event in Depot Park with a pooch promenade around the Plaza and a dog contest in front of City Hall. Our very own Ben Flajnik of “The Bachelor” will be one of our celebrity judges at the contest. Look for the registration form on our website and join us for the celebration of dogs and humans on July 28.

With a wag and a woof. Ciao for now.
