Bicyclists injured in Napa crash

Oct 9, 2012 - 12:16 PM

Two Sonoma women were injured Monday afternoon in Napa County when an errant motorist apparently drifted into the bike lane striking the two bicyclists.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Norman Pierce, 69, of Napa, was southbound on Highway 29 just south of Ehlers Lane at about 12:40 p.m., when for some unknown reason, he hit bicyclists Beatrice McIntosh, 67, of Sonoma, and Jean Behse, 72, also of Sonoma, who were also southbound on Highway 29 in the bike lane.

Both women were taken to Queen of the Valley in Napa. McIntosh was reportedly suffered major injuries while Behse suffered what were called moderate injuries. Both women were wearing helmets.

There were no citations issued and the CHP said alcohol is not a factor in the collision.
