Bar Battle set for Oct. 13

It’s that time again, sixth annual Sonoma Bar Battle, set for Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building. During the event, which is sponsored by the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #111 and the American Legion Jack London Post #489, local bartenders face off for the title of “Sonoma’s Best Bartender.”

  During the evening, the participating restaurants and bars each bring a signature cocktail and appetizers for all attendees to try. They will decorate their booth and vie for the attendees votes to earn the title for “Best Booth” and “Best Fan Cocktail.”

  But during the main event, the bartenders will compete in an Iron Bartender type challenge. Once on stage each bartender will have a mere 10 minutes to make a cocktail using the secret ingredient that has just been revealed. The winner from each heat will move to the final; this winner will be given the title of “Sonoma’s Best Bartender.”

  For the fourth year, Gloria Ferrer will host its own competition within the Sonoma Bar Battle. Each bartender competing will be asked to make a “new” cocktail that features Gloria Ferrer Brut.

  Train Wreck Junction is back for the second year, playing country/honky tonk music throughout the evening. In addition to that music, there will be a silent auction, food and drinks.

  Tickets are available now at South American Secrets, Steiners Tavern, Town Square, Eraldi’s Menswear and Mary’s Pizza on the Plaza. Tickets are $35 in advance and can be purchased until 5 p.m. on Friday Oct. 12; or, if they’re not sold out, tickets will be $40 at the door. This event is for age 21 and older.

  All the proceeds from the event are split between the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #111 and the American Legion Jack London Post #489.
