Banner theft robs veterans

Valley forum

Sep 13, 2012 - 03:39 PM

This past weekend the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bear Flag Post 1943, hosted the inaugural All American Bad Ass Car Show at the Sonoma Veterans complex. We had a wonderful turnout of both cars and spectators, with 112 vehicles on site and close to 2,000 people who thoroughly enjoyed the show. Boy Scout Troop 222 did a bang up job serving close to 600 hungry folks at their pancake breakfast.

I want to thank everyone involved, including the post volunteers, the Civil Air Patrol who provided security, all those great people who supported us by registering and driving their cars to the event, and all the local residents who showed up to check out the cars, trucks and motorcycles on display.

A lot of hard work went into putting on the event, including advertising, and this is what I want to focus on.

Late Saturday or Sunday, someone thought they would collect a souvenir by taking the 4-foot-by-8-foot banner we had on the Montini field fence at the corner of Verano Avenue and Fifth Street West. We had four of these banners hung around the Valley at various locales, including the one mentioned. We paid $213 each to have these printed.

Whoever the idiot was who stole the banner on Fifth Street West, stole $213 from our veterans assistance program. I don’t know who did this, but whoever you are, you can rest assured that your value as a human being is at the lowest rank. I hope one of your “friends” happens to read this and turns your sorry posterior in to the police department, who have received a report of the theft.

In the meantime, we will carry on and do the good work our post has set out to accomplish.
