Thirty middle school students recently graduated from a five-week financial literacy course at the Boys & Girls Club, sponsored by Union Bank and Operation Hope. Union Bank Senior Community Relations Manager Molly Fedorchak and branch Manager Billy Whitehead taught the course, “Banking on our Future.” This was the first course taught in Northern California. Beginning in January, Union Bank and Operation Hope will teach the course to local high school Boys & Girls Club members. The Banking on Our Future curriculum includes courses focused on the basics of banking, checking and saving accounts, the power of credit, basic investments and a course titled “Dignity.” Each week, the kids participating in the program learned practical lessons by using hands-on calculations and real-world examples. Pictured are Banking On Our Future graduates Aliya Blinman, a seventh-grader at Sonoma Charter School, and Deja Morrow, a sixth-grader at Sonoma Charter.
