Auto racing and global warming

Aug 9, 2012 - 04:02 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

I was wondering if it was possible to publish an issue of the Index-Tribune without a picture, caption, story and promotion of the auto raceway formerly known as Sears Point? It’s understood that Mr. Bolling likes car races and the related mechanics, but is there some contractual agreement to

support this business readers are not aware of?

I realize the thrill of burning rubber, high-speed car crashes, great plumes of fuel exhaust and all the stuff of car races is a big turn-on for some, but surely there must be other spectator events to hold varied readers’ interests.

And then there’s the matter of unnecessary, additional Co2 pollution. Ironically, in the Friday, Aug. 3, issue of the I-T, with yet another raceway photo, was an exceptional Op-Ed by Ray Gallian about the possibilities of biochar reduction of Co2 in the atmosphere, and how critical that and other mitigations will be in countering global warming.

Please I-T; give us more good and useful news about positive solutions to global problems, and less promotion about counterproductive distractions that only exacerbate them.

I applaud Will Shunbrun his Aug 9, 2012 I-T article "Auto racing and global warming". This is a very important issue that should be discussed more.

Old folks like me should also consider something less than a 300Hp motor home to get around and enjoy ourselves at the expense of our future offsprings.
