Appreciates candidates willing to run

Nov 5, 2012 - 04:56 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

It’s been more than two weeks since the Sonoma Skypark Airport Family Fun Day open house, but I wanted to thank the candidates for local office for attending and meeting with the guests of the airport. Susan Gorin and John Sawyer, both running for Sonoma County Supervisor for the 1st District, as well as Laurie Gallian, Madolyn Agrimonti, David Cook and Cameron Stuckey, all running for Sonoma City Council, had information tables and materials and talked with many Sonoma Valley voters.

I am impressed by the sincerity and dedication of each candidate and am confident that whoever wins their respective elections will serve their constituencies well.

Serving in public office requires more time and patience than I am willing to dedicate to the effort, so I salute those who willingly step forth and seek to hold those public offices. Although I don’t always agree with them, and sometimes find myself ranting over the morning paper at their actions, I always appreciate the fact that they are there, conducting public business on my behalf.

That realization takes some of the cynicism out of my view of local politics. As Pogo Possum said, “Vote early and often.”
