Analy nips boys, girls soccer Dragons
Sonoma hosting 3 matches this week
In another battle of longtime Sonoma County League rivals, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity soccer boys were locked into a 1-1 second-half tie with defending-champion and current first-place Analy in Sebastopol last Thursday night, hoping to turn the tables from their first meeting, a one-goal loss in the final minute.
But, with 14 minutes left, the Dragons were undone by a questionable call that gave Analy a penalty kick that turned into the difference maker in its 2-1 win.
Sonoma’s lone score was an unassisted goal by junior Bryan Ruiz.
The Dragon boys host SCL foes Healdsburg and El Molino in 4 p.m. matches today and Thursday, Oct. 11, respectively, at the high school field.

On Friday, Sonoma’s varsity soccer girls fell behind SCL first-place Analy 3-1 at the half, before returning to the field after the halftime break and dominating the play in the second-half at the high school field.
The Lady Dragons went on to score a goal to cut their deficit to 3-2, but they couldn’t find the net again – though they did hit the cross-bar twice – and ended up dropping a heartbreaking decision by the same score.
Scoring Sonoma’s two goals were junior Maria Hawing and sophomore Alejandra Alvarez.
The Lady Dragons travel to Healdsburg for an SCL match tomorrow night, Wednesday, Oct. 10, before returning home to host league foe El Molino on senior night at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 12, at Arnold Field.
