Amelia Hunt

Amelia Hunt of Sonoma peacefully passed away on her 94th birthday, Aug. 18, 2012.

Born in Oklahoma on Aug. 18, 1918, Amelia was the daughter of William and Lucy Allen. Amelia was one of 12 children. Her family moved from Oklahoma to Visalia, where she met her husband, George. Amelia and George moved to Sonoma where they made their home.

Amelia spent her life as a homemaker. She prided herself in making sure that the family was well fed and you never walked out the door hungry. On a small ranch in Sonoma, Amelia and George raised beef, chickens, milk cows and pigs. She enjoyed gardening, especially vegetables where one year she canned more than 200 quarts of fruits and vegetables. Amelia loved going to Reno and felt her birthday was very lucky being born on the eighth month, on the 18 day in 1918. Amelia had 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Amelia was strong-willed and meticulous which led her to live her 94 years independently, the last two years at Sonoma Hills.

Amelia is survived by her daughters, Betty Welch (Floyd), Frieda Mazza, and Geneva Richards. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Hunt, and her daughter, Georgia Bishop (Harold). Amelia left us on her lucky day, her birthday. Her smile and loyalty to her family will be truly missed.

Family services were held at Duggan’s Mission Chapel and Amelia was buried next to her late husband George at Sonoma Mountain Cemetery.
