Adele Harrison Middle School students conducted a Penny War between the grades in help raise money for the Kiwani-Mentoring Golf-A-Thon fundraiser in September. The Penny War was spearheaded by the “Take Action Committee” comprised of kids in the seventh- and eighth-grade leadership class. The purpose of the “Take Action Committee” is to come up with service projects that impact the school and the local community. Both the local Kiwanis Club and the Mentoring Alliance are important partners of Adele Harrison. The Kiwanis members work closely with the school’s Builders Club, and the Mentoring Alliance has an office on campus where more than 60 students meet with their mentors each week. Students were asked to bring their loose change to school over a five-day period. The coins were placed in their grade level containers and $825 was raised.
