Jan 5, 2012 - 04:34 PM

The nonprofit Silver Moon Theatre Company will offer a series of acting classes for both adults and children beginning this month at the Sonoma Community Center in the Backstage Theater.

Season theater professionals Nellie Cravens and Sue Martin will teach "Scene Study for Adults" on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Jan. 18 and running through March 21. Participants will play theatre games, learn about stage movement, practice character development and study a scene. The class will end with a performance for friends and family on March 21.

The cost is $160 for 10 weeks, or $145 for members of the community center.

On Tuesdays, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Cravens and Martin will teach "Light the Lights," aimed at youth ages 11 to 18. The class begins Jan. 17 and runs through March 13 in the Backstage Theater. Students will learn acting exercises and theatre games; work on building a character, voice and diction; and study a scene. The class ends with a performance for friends and family on March 13. The cost of the nine-week class is $145, or $130 for members of the community center.

To register, call the Sonoma Community Center at 938-4626, ext. 1.

The center is located at 276 E. Napa St.
