At the start of the Sonoma County League season, Sonoma Valley High School’s varsity softball girls won two of their first three games by lopsided scores. But since the upbeat league start, it’s been a rough go with three straight SCL losses.
The most recent defeat came last Thursday at the high school field when the young Lady Dragons – who continued their defensive struggles and have committed 22 errors in six SCL games – dropped a 9-2 decision to visiting Windsor.
Pacing Sonoma were lone senior Mia Stornetta’s RBI single, and a single each by junior Megan McNeilly and sophomores Juliana Gutierrez and Ashley Vail.
On Friday, the Lady Dragons played Terra Linda in a rained-out, rescheduled nonleague road game and were nipped 3-1 on a walk-off home run.
Again Sonoma’s offense struggled, with Stornetta and freshman Amber Rose each singling, and frosh Lindsey Rocha adding a sacrifice-fly RBI.
The Lady Dragons will host SCL rivals Healdsburg and Petaluma at 4 p.m. today and Thursday, April 28, respectively, at the high school field.
