What are we paying for?
Editor, Index-Tribune:
This last Sunday, June 19, is the third time this year we've called 9-1-1 for my heart and it's the third time the paramedics have taken me to Queen of the Valley Hospital or Kaiser Hospital-San Rafael. Each time I've asked them why they do not take me to Sonoma Valley Hospital (only five minutes from our home), the answer all three times was that "Sonoma Valley Hospital was not equipped to treat emergency heart attacks."
Why are we paying bond taxes for Sonoma Valley Hospital? Except for auto accidents, most emergency trips to the hospital are heart related.
Thank you to the Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue paramedics for getting me to the correct hospital on time for treatment of my heart attacks.
Also, thank you to the city of Sonoma for the $49 a year a household for the ambulance service the Sonoma Fire Meds provide. We have been members since it was first offered and have never had to pay a co-pay for an ambulance, even though money is the furthest thought in your mind in the time of an emergency.
