Wants divorce from Republican values
Editor, Index-Tribune:
If I knew how to draw, I would draw a political cartoon with the Republican Congress in the middle of the cartoon, insulated from the rest of the world, playing golf and having meetings where they remind each other to say, "Just say no," while believing that their ends justify any means they choose.
And all around this center picture would be children and adults going hungry, bridges falling, schools crumbling, women in the kitchen and pregnant, while the strength that is America is being attacked.
Today's Republicans seem so full of anger and so lacking in rational and reasoned thought that it literally makes me feel sick inside. They cheer when the Texas governor proudly states the number of executions in his state. They demand that if you can not, or do not choose to have medical insurance, that you should be left to die without medical aid. They seem to want a puritanical, patriarchal, eye-for-an-eye, fundamentalist political system, just like the fundamentalists in the Muslim religion. And this seems most apparent in their treatment of women.
While I am sure they would vehemently deny this comparison, they none-the-less set about taking away or restricting women's rights the minute they became governors and took over the House of Representatives. A civilized society is a society in which women and minorities are treated with respect, dignity, and justice. As a woman who is feeling abused by most Republicans, I would like to take out a restraining order and file for a divorce.
