Battling for their first Sonoma County League win of the still early season, Sonoma Valley High School’s young golfing boys were unable take advantage of a medalist performance by senior standout A.J. Vitorelo and, again, fell short of breaking into the SCL victory column.
While Vitorelo fired a fine nine-hole, low-round-best 4-over-par 40 last Thursday at the Sonoma Golf Club, the Dragons couldn’t upend visiting El Molino and were handed a 246-261 loss.
Along with Vitorelo, who earned multiple medalist honors and reached the postseason North Coast Section championships last year as a junior, Sonoma was paced by junior RAB Byrd’s 45, sophomore Craig Gusse’s 55, sophomore Justin Crockett’s 57, and freshman Jacob Bollman’s 64.
The golfing Dragons, who competed in the annual Ukiah Tournament yesterday – results not available at presstime – play at SCL foes Analy and Healdsburg today and this Thursday, April 7, respectively.

Sonoma’s tennis boys return to SCL action this week, facing first-place Casa Grande in Petaluma today, then hosting Healdsburg in a 3:30 p.m. league match this Thursday, April 7, at the high school courts.

The Dragon boys’ and girls’ swim teams travel to Forestville this Thursday, April 7, for SCL dual-meets with El Molino, before returning to their Agua Caliente Aquatic Center home pool to host league rival Petaluma on Wednesday, April 13.
