Vietnam Memorial Wall replica coming to Sonoma in 2012
A REPLICA of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, 80 percent the size of the original in Washington, D.C., is being brought to Sonoma Valley next year by the local VFW chapter for the Veterans Day celebration, Nov. 7 to 11, 2012.
Planning and fundraising has already begun to bring the 80 percent replica model of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., to Sonoma Valley next year as part of the 2012 "Cost of Freedom Tribute," to be hosted by Sonoma's Bear Flag Post 1943 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Nov. 7 to 12, 2012.
The wall is 370-feet long and has all the names of those killed in action during the Vietnam War, just as the real has. Although the wall is the main attraction, there are tributes to World War II, the Korean War, 9/11, Iraq and Afghanistan, firefighters, police officers and more. The event will be held at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park, 126 First St. W. The post is also working on getting static displays of a Huey helicopter and military and firefighting equipment.
VFW Post 1943 is now accepting donations to raise the $20,000 it will take to put on the event. Donations can be mailed to VFW Post 1943, PO Box 778, Sonoma, CA 95476.
