Competing in a string of weekend tournaments, the Sonoma Crush girls’ AAU basketball program, with 20 girls playing under the direction head coach Mark Burningham, who’s assisted by Jennifer Russo, continues to lay a solid foundation for girls’ hoops in the Valley.
The Sonoma Crush seventh- and eighth-grade girls team earned an upbeat second-place finish in its first tourney in Santa Rosa, before winning the North Bay Chicks Tournament seventh-grade bracket title, and battling to fourth-place in a recent Santa Cruz tourney which featured a challenging 16-team field.
“I’m very excited to be working with these girls before high school,” said Burningham. “Great things are going to come for the (Sonoma Valley High School) Lady Dragons’ basketball program.”
