Valley’s Club Dave runs “The Relay” for Ben and Organs-R-Us
Last weekend, the 16th annual Relay – a challenging 199-mile run, the nation’s second largest long-distance relay, involving approximately 300 teams of 12 runners – was held and, as always, benefited in helping save lives through education about organ and tissue donation through Organs-R-Us.
For the eighth consecutive year, Sonoma’s representative in “The Relay” – starting in Calistoga and venturing through Napa, Sonoma (including the Valley) and Marin counties, across the Golden Gate Bridge and through San Francisco and Silicon Valley to Santa Cruz, where it ended on the Boardwalk – was Club Dave.
Dedicating its run to a five-year-old boy named Henry, whose parents gave the gift of life to two other people by donating his organs after he lost his battle with brain cancer, Club Dave finished the challenging event in a just-over 30 hours.
Comprising Sonoma’s Club Dave team were Dr. Janet Cain (captain), Jennifer Anderson (co-captain), Gary Carlsen, Deb Decarli, Annette Niewald, Brett Scheider, Cynthia Reddick, Cara Larimer, Michelle Tulley, Diane Mills, Jody Purdom and Dave (of Club Dave) Cain.
Donations to Organs-R-Us are always welcome and can be made through Janet Cain at 938-2646, or go online at therelay.com.
