Valley’s Cal Martial Arts Institute team opens 2011 season

Getting their 2011 tournament season off to a upbeat start, the Valley’s California Martial Arts Institute team competed last month’s Lama’s Kenpo Karate Ultimate Slam Championships in Albany and took home three titles and other honors at the Bay Area regional tournament featuring divisions for all ages.

In the adult division, Steve Brumme captured first-place with Okinawan Iron Crutch and then nearly aced the award for Grand Champion.

Competing in the younger divisions, Lilly Anne Beatty claimed first-place in sparring; Timmy O’Sullivan took first in Kata; Charlie Beatty was second in Kata and third in sparring; Andrew Beatty finished third in Kata and fourth in sparring; and Elias Chavez earned two participatory medals in Kata and sparring.
