Valley creeks to be cleaned Saturday

 

Numerous Valley groups have partnered for a creek cleanup day Saturday, April 16, as part of Earth Day.

The Sonoma Stream Stewardships, Sonoma County Regional Parks, Transition Sonoma Valley, Nuestra Voz and Sonoma Ecology Center are hosting the events at five different locations.

The cleanup will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will be held, rain or shine.

The cleanup sites are:

• Nathanson Creek Preserve behind Adele Harrison Middle School and Sonoma Valley High School

• Schell Creek Orchard at 22120 Broadway

• Sassarini Elementary School at 652 Fifth St. W., which will be bilingual.

• Larson Park at DeChene Avenue, which will be bilingual.

• Maxwell Farms Regional Park at 100 Verano Ave., which is also bilingual. The parking fee at Maxwell waived for volunteers.

"Transition Sonoma Valley is happy to partner with the Sonoma Ecology Center to clean our creeks," said Travis Lyons, member of TSV. "We're about making Sonoma Valley a more resilient place, and what better way to encourage resilience and sustainable living practices than by keeping our creeks clean and healthy?"

All ages and skill levels are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

For Maxwell and Larson parks, children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and ages 14 to 17 must come with a signed parental permission slip.

Volunteers will be getting dirty, so dress appropriately - wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves, a snack and refillable water bottle.
