Valley Little League teams begin TOC, Sonoma Valley Majors Angels, Minors Indians win, host today

It was a weekend of mixed results for the Valley’s Little League title-winning and runner-up teams after a competitive first-round of action in the Little League District 53 Tournament of Champions, with two of Sonoma Valley’s four squads winning and advancing, while both Valley of the Moon clubs were edged and eliminated.
In Sunday’s Little League District 53 TOC Majors Division Area single elimination tourney at SVLL’s Hughes Field, the Sonoma Valley champion Angels defeated Vallejo’s runner-up team 8-4.
Battling in the TOC Majors Area tourney in Fairfield on Saturday, the Valley of the Moon champion Mustangs dropped a heartbreaking 4-2 decision to Fairfield Atlantic 2.
Sonoma Valley’s Majors runner-up Cardinals lost 13-4 to Napa National in Napa on Sunday.
In District 53 TOC Minors Division AAA Area play at Sonoma’s Teeter Field, the first-place Sonoma Valley Indians nipped Middletown/Cobb 7-6 Sunday, while on Saturday, the SVLL runner-up Reds lost 12-2 to Fairfield Atlantic in Fairfield, and the VOMLL first-place Mets were trimmed 8-7 by Napa American in Napa on Sunday.
Both the victorious Sonoma Valley Angels and Indians host District 53 TOC Majors and Minors Area Tourney second-round 5:30 p.m. games today at Hughes and Teeter fields, respectively.
Comprising the 2011 Sonoma Valley Majors Division champion Angels are Nathan Borg, Zachary Brennan, Henry Darnell, Will Larson, Wyatt Larson, Matthew Matulaitis, Shane O'Malley, Andy Purdom, Carson Snyder, Gannon Traynor, Noah Weston-Cess, Maxwell Yankovich, manager Kevin Cess and coaches Michael Yankovich and Dan Matulaitis.
The 2011 Valley of the Moon Majors Division champion Mustangs consisted of Quinton Cuellar, Dara Heffernan, Alex Kirley, Devin Lance, William Lennon, Sean Prasad, Evan Raffani, Dylan Samaniego, Asher Sutter, Andrew Toovey, Ethan Vitale, Tyler Winslow, manager Ron Lennon and coaches Paul Kirley and Jason Sutter.
Comprising the 2011 Sonoma Valley Minors AAA champion Indians are Shane Barnett, Dante Cavaz, Gabriel Contreras, Anthony Costanzo, Joseph Costanzo, Justin Cox, Mason Cox, Gabriel Garza, Dustin Hellman, Juan Carlos Hernandez, Lawson Lee, Noah Thomas, manager Mark Costanzo and coaches Frank Cavaz and Frank Cox.
The 2011 Valley of the Moon Minors AAA champion Mets consisted of Brady Armitage, Hank Schoeningh, Layla Schoeningh, Tanner Rozema, Rocky Wetzel, Tyler Garrett, Trent Garrett, Jaya Garcia, Trevor Velarde, Noe Pizano, Elijah Salazar, Joshua Salazar, manager Zack Schoeningh and coaches Johnny Armitage, Saul Rozema and Stan Long.
