VOM Trap Club’s Jim Meehan Memorial Trap Shoot Saturday; Dragons Hall of Fame tickets

THE VALLEY OF the Moon Trap Club will hold its seventh annual Jim Meehan Memorial Trap Shoot and Barbecue at the club’s South Burndale Road site (27000 Burndale Road) this Saturday, April 30, with competition for men, women and juniors. The trap benefit event starts at 9 a.m. and the barbecue lunch, silent auction and raffle prizes and the awards presentation – including a commemorative silver belt buckle awarded to the winner of each event by class and high overall – begins at 11 a.m., with no-host beer and wine. All the proceeds will be donated to the the Sonoma Valley Girls Softball Association and Sonoma Valley 4-H. Entry fees for the shoot and lunch are $50 for adults and $35 for juniors (ages 16-and-under) – lunch only is $20 and children under-12-years-old are admitted free. THE FOURTH ANNUAL Sonoma Valley High School Dragon Hall of Fame ceremony is slated to take place on Saturday, May 7, at the Lodge at Sonoma, starting with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and induction ceremonies at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event – which are $85 each and tax deductible – can be ordered by sending a check and self-addressed stamped return envelope to: Dragon Hall of Fame, c/o Vicky Mulas, P.O. SONOMA VALLEY YOUTH Soccer Association continues registration is online, with walk-in sign-up sessions slated from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, April 30, at El Verano Elementary School, and on Saturday, May 7, at La Luz’s Booker Hall. Boys and girls who didn’t play during the 2009 and 2010 seasons need to provide a birth certificate to register. Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis with proof of income, and must be applied for in person. Sibling discounts are offered to families with more than one player. THE SONOMA VALLEY Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold its third annual conservation banquet on Saturday, May 7, at Hanna Boys Center to raise funds for wildlife conservation and youth in the outdoors programs. Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 featuring an all-you-can-eat tri-tip barbecue, beer and wine. The evening will also include a general raffle, a ladies raffle, games, plus live and silent auctions. Ticket prices are $65 for singles, $95 for couples, $35 for “Jakes” (18-years-old-and-under), $350 for a sponsor package, and $900 for a sponsor table. SONOMA VALLEY TENNIS Association continues its Spring QuickStart program – under the direction of USPTA Pro Sam Levy – for ages 6-to-8 from 10 to 11 a.m., and 9-to-12-year-olds from 11 a.m. to noon, at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park courts (weather permitting) through Saturday, April 30. Also, STVA will hold a free adult tennis clinic, with beginning and re-entry instruction, directed by Levy, at the Maxwell Park courts from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Saturday in April – tennis shoes are required, while rackets and balls will be provided. SVTA will hold its Rally For The Cure Round Robin Doubles Tennis Tournament to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research – under the direction of USPTA pro Christi Hays – from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Maxwell Park courts. THE LADY DRAGONS Spring Volleyball Camps for girls in high school grades nine and 10, and middle school grades seven and eight, is taking place on Mondays and Wednesdays through May 4, at Sonoma Valley High School’s Pfeiffer Gym. For ninth- and 10th-graders, the high school camp will run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and is for advanced players to gain more detailed skill experience. The middle school camp for seventh- and eighth-graders takes place from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. and provides intermediate skills instruction for girls who have played organized volleyball and wish to prepare for high school and improve their skills. BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS of Sonoma Valley, together with Professional Climbers International are offering rock climbing for adults, with the “Introduction to Climbing” classes taking place at the club’s Maxwell gym, Maxwell Farms Regional Park, 100 Verano Ave., every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon through June. Pro intruction will be provided by both Professional Climbers International and Santa Rosa’s Vertex Climbing Center. Classes cost $20 an adult. A parent/child climbing class is also being offered at the club from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7. Cost for parents and children ages 6-to-12 are $30 a pair. SONOMA VALLEY STACK Travel Baseball will hold 2011 registration for players 9-to-14-years-old at Arnold Field clubhouse from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, May 1, 8 and 15. Tryouts are slated for Monday, June 13 (ages 9-to-12), and Monday, June 20 (ages 13 and 14) at Peterson Field (Field of Dreams), with a tryout makeup day set for Monday, June 27. SONOMA BOCCE BALL Association has started league play at the bocce courts south of the gazebo in Depot Park, with three nine-week sessions ending on Wednesday, Nov. 2. New members are welcome to sign up for league play, with the annual membership cost being $20 a person. The SBBA is looking to establish a Saturday league. PRESENTATION SCHOOL’S 11th annual Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, May 9, at the Sonoma Golf Club and will benefit the students of the Presentation School. Cost for this year’s event is $195 a player, or $780 for a foursome which includes golf with cart, tee-prize, photograph of your foursome, box lunch and dinner, catered by the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, immediately following the tourney. For those who just want to attend the dinner and awards ceremony, tickets can be purchased for $65. As always, there will be a longest drive competition, closest-to-the-pin competition and prizes for the winner of the scramble event. MURPHY’S IRISH PUB’S 15th annual Bottomfeeders Open Golf Tournament will once again take place at Oakmont’s West Course in Santa Rosa, with the event set for Friday, May 27, and it will once again benefit Vintage House in Sonoma. Tournament entry fee is $160 a player, or if you sign up for a foursome, the cost is $600 for the group, and includes golf with cart, a sleeve of golf balls, a tee-prize, as well as a box lunch, beer and other refreshments on the course. Someone could also walk away with a nice check, as a $10,000 hole-in-one prize will be offered for the lucky person who makes an ace during the event. A buffet dinner featuring prime rib and salmon follows at the Vintage House, along with a hosted beer and wine awards ceremony. The event gets underway with check-in at 11:30 a.m., followed by a shot-gun start at 12:30 p.m. The hosted beer and wine bar starts at 6, and the awards dinner is at 7:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending just the dinner portion can do so for a cost of $60.
