Truly free credit reports
Editor, Index-Tribune:
This is in response to Ken Erickson's Aug. 2 letter to the editor concerning his apparent victimization by a credit report telemarketing scam.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is charged with enforcing the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which requires each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies to provide, upon request and without cost, a person's credit report once every 12 months.
For information and instructions, go to the FTC's, "Your Access to Freed Credit Reports" website at www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre34.shtm or www.annualcreditreport.com or call 877-322-8228.
