Troops helping troops

Nov 7, 2011 - 02:22 PM

Girl Scouts in Sonoma Valley got into the Christmas spirit a bit early to make holiday cards for U.S. soldiers serving overseas. From left, 6-year-olds Ashlynn Armitage, Sydney Gamble and Carlie Maxwell of Daisy Troop 10112 display some of the festive Christmas cards they made at a workshop hosted by Cadette Troop 10032.

Sixty Girl Scouts crafted more than 300 Christmas cards that will be sent to U.S. troops along with care packages sponsored by the local American Legion. Each Girl Scout donated a bag of candy, which Cadette Troop 10032 is sorting into holiday boxes for the soldiers. The effort is part of the Girl Scout mission to "help make the world a better place."
