Tot dies after being run over by truck

A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon after the bicycle he was riding hit a pickup truck, throwing the boy under the truck.

The incident happened at a private residence in the 5600 block of Enterprise Road in rural Glen Ellen.

According to Officer Jonathan Sloat with the Santa Rosa office of the California Highway Patrol, at about 12:25 p.m. Gregoria Soto Reyes, 34, of San Leandro, was driving his 2003 Chevy pickup on private vineyard property and was eastbound on a gravel portion of the property at about 5 miles an hour. Sloat said Reyes' 4-year-old nephew was riding his bike at the rear of Reyes' truck and began to overtake the truck on a downhill stretch. As the tot passed the truck, he veered to the left and into the path of the truck.

The impact caused the tot to be thrown from the bike under the truck.

Sloat said the 4-year-old was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died.

The CHP said that alcohol or drugs don't appear to be a factor in the collision. Sloat said the matter is still under investigation.
