Thank goodness for SVH

Oct 31, 2011 - 03:33 PM

Editor, Index-Tribune:

Every time I read a spate of news about the confusing world of health insurance and HMOs, and the as-yet-unforeseen consequences of Obama-Care, I am once again thankful for Sonoma Valley Hospital. Sonoma at its best.

With the ongoing support of the whole community through parcel taxes and bond measures, our little hospital continues doing what it does so well. We are blessed with caring and skilled professionals who choose to practice medicine here instead of in some much more lucrative setting in a big population center.

We are further blessed with dedicated and resilient volunteers who serve as directors of the healthcare district.

Still, it’s a mess when some executive somewhere decides that United Healthcare is only going to support Sutter, leaving hundreds of our neighbors with a tough decision: change carriers or drive out of the Valley for your doctor visits.

I hope you all choose to change carriers. Our local docs and local hospital need you. I can only speak for myself. I live here because I love living here, in a small town that acts like a small town, and where we take care of one another.
