Sue Simon and Cece Hugo launch HWY 12 Properties

Realtors Sue Simon and Cece Hugo recently announced the opening of HWY 12 Properties at 1061 Broadway (directly across from Sonoma Valley High School) as a satellite office of Wine Country Group by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate.

“From condos and cottages to ranches and farms, HWY 12 Properties is a full service real estate company specializing in helping buyers find and sellers get the best value for Sonoma Valley properties from Schellville to Oakmont,” Hugo stated. “Sue and I share a commitment to creating and pursuing opportunities to build better communities along the HWY 12 corridor.”

Simon and her husband, James, downsized with a move from San Francisco to the town of Sonoma in 2001, cutting their square footage in half. Introduced to Sonoma Valley by a colleague of Sue’s, they were looking for room to garden in real dirt rather than the pots on their roof deck in the City. Now, on about a tenth of an acre in town, she grows: kumquats, Meyer lemons, feijoa guavas, four kinds of apples, two kinds of pears, pomegranates, olives, artichokes, cardoons, cherries, capers, potatoes, and all kinds of herbs.

This keeps her especially attuned to properties that offer opportunities for yard farming—whether it’s growing food, raising chickens, or tending hives of bees. She is very connected with our local sustainable design, agriculture and food communities and loves to help her clients leverage those resources. With her extensive background in banking and consumer finance, Simon also is a capable advocate for her clients’ point of view on both the buying and selling side of a transaction.

Transitioning into real estate seemed like a natural move for Hugo – a perfect way to bring her years of marketing and public relations experience together with an appreciation for where we all call home and a lifelong commitment to providing exemplary service.

Hugo first discovered Sonoma Valley during her family's epic road trip to see all 21 missions on the El Camino Real, the historic mission trail ending in Sonoma. Years later, she returned for vacation and fell in love with the town's allure and lovely setting. After living in various parts of the country including Hawaii, Seattle and San Francisco, Hugo was drawn back to Sonoma and the Valley of the Moon in 2006 with her partner.

There was the appeal of a charming small town with easy access to a vibrant metropolitan area, but what sealed the deal for her was the passion and commitment of Sonomans to create and sustain a vital, progressive community and protect its farms, vineyards and open land. Hugo says she hopes to help others who are also drawn to Sonoma Valley as the place they intend to start a business or call home, part time or full time.
