Stunning parental failure
Editor, Index-Tribune:
I need to take issue with the editorial of June 2, less so for its content than for its title, "Stunning sexual ignorance."
Your piece concerned an admitted sexual attack upon a female student by two male students at Sonoma Valley High School. I do agree with your thesis that sex is pervasive in the media and elsewhere. I don't agree that the two boys were sexually ignorant; they were very sexually aware. Their actions, however, were not merely the result of watching MTV or attending proms, as you suggested. Perhaps your column should have been titled "Stunning parental failure."
