Sonomans perform night of cabaret

Aug 25, 2011 - 03:29 PM

Two longtime Sonoma performers, Jeane MacPherson and Monica McKey, are realizing a long-overdue fantasy: to stage their own cabaret show.

The show - "Having the Time of Our Lives" - is part of the Sonoma Theatre Alliance's Summer Nights series, and will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 30 and 31, in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St.

"We figured we'd done enough performing in other folks' shows over the years, and it was high time we did our own," said MacPherson. McKey's recent return to Sonoma after an almost six-year absence made the timing perfect. "It's one way I can say 'howdy' to the community at large," she said, "and support the Sonoma Theatre Alliance (STA), which is one of the reasons I came back to Sonoma."

Accompanied by Hugh Trutton - also from Sonoma - on the grand piano, John Paul Norris, of Cotati on bass; and Marc Ikeda, of Rohnert Park on drums, the evening's playlist will include some well-known jazz standards and some spicy comedic numbers, as well as some lesser-known tunes.

Proceeds will benefit the Sonoma Theatre Alliance.

Tickets are $14, $10 for seniors ages 62 and up, and are available at www.sonomacommunitycenter.org or by calling 938-4626, ext. 1.
