At Sonoma Valley High School’s recent annual wrestling awards banquet, directed by head coach Kyle Baird and assistant coach Glenn Geesman, individual achievements of the varsity Dragons, and the major support of a team parent, were recognized.

Earning the evening’s top honor, the coveted Steve Del Carlo Award for the most valuable player, was four-year varsity standout and team captain senior Riley Hyman, who also earned the award for the most pins during the season with a team-high-tying 13 pins.

The inspirational Elizabeth Schoen Award for the most improved wrestler went to sophomore Wyatt Casella, who also received the award for the fastest pin at 27 seconds.

Selected as the most valuable sophomore was Sam Denning – who also was awarded for the most pins during the season, tying Hyman with 13 – while Harris Meglen was given the most valuable freshman award.

Receiving all-league stature from the Sonoma County League were Hyman and sophomore Jonathan Amandoli, who were named to the second-team, and Denning, Meglen and sophomore Giordi Serafini, who were honorable mention selections.

Honored with the Deborah Payne Memorial Award (exceptional support by team parents) for 2010-11 was Kaylin Hyman.
