Sonoma swimmers swamped at Windsor
It was rough and overcrowded waters on the Sonoma County League road for Sonoma Valley High School's boys' and girls' varsity swim teams last Thursday, when they were shutout of event wins and swept in the metered pool by Windsor's strong, deep squads.
The Dragon boys lost 132-30, while the Lady Dragons were defeated 137-24, with all the results not available at presstime.
Sonoma did have two highlights in the girls' junior varsity meet, with sophomore Caroline Knef earning a first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 28 seconds, and freshman Abigail Van Kirk took a 100 backstroke first in 1:52.0.
The Dragon swim teams will host St. Helena in their regular-season and home finales at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4, in the Agua Caliente Aquatic Center's pool.

Sonoma's track and field teams will end their regular season with SCL dual-meets against El Molino in Forestville tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4.
At the recent Fred Faucett Invitational in Vallejo, Sonoma junior Alex Conner continued his recent long-distance surge as a two-event winner, claiming first-place in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:37.06 (personal record-PR), and taking the 3,200 in 9:549.78.
The Dragon varsity boys were also paced by Steven Wedell's second-place 3,200 finish in 10:40.03 (PR); Owen Ljung's 1,600 fourth in 4:52.65 (PR); Brandon Gossett's pole-vault fourth at 8-feet (PR); Raymond Mellinger's shot-put third at 43 feet, 11 inches and discus ninth at 97-11; Devin McAllister's 800 fifth in 2:10.57 (PR); and Josh Heiser's shot-put and discus eighths at 37-4 and 100-10, respectively.
Pacing the varsity Lady Dragons with top-12 finishes were Sachi Spalding's high-jump fifth-place at 4-2 and long-jump 11th at 13-2 (PR); Anelyn Burquez's high-jump seventh at 4-0; the 10th-place 400-relay team of Maren Peterson, Ellen Angelino, Elli Hernandez and Ali Romano in 55.0; Angelino's long-jump 10th at 13-3 (PR); Emma Conaway's shot-put and discus 10ths at 20-10 and 55-2 (PR) respectively; and Gina Mellinger's shot-put 11th at 19-5.
The Sonoma frosh-soph boys were paced with top-12 finishes by Danny Dwyer's long-jump first at 16-2, pole-vault second at 9-0 and triple-jump fourth at 35-0; Chris Tose's 800 second in 2:11.21 (PR); Ljung's 3,200 second in 10:31.31 (PR); Greg Maggioncalda's 110- and 300-hurdles seconds in 16.87(PR) and 43.5 (PR), respectively; Cristian Martinez's 800 third in 2:19.16 (PR); Tasi Sherpa's pole-vault fourth at 7-0; Manny Gonzales' long-jump fifth at 13-0; the fifth-place 1,600 relay team of Tose, AJ Lemaire, Tashi Sherpa, Tasi Sherpa in 4:07.70; the sixth-place 400 relay team of Lemaire, Tose, Tashi Sherpa and Tasi Sherpa in 49.64; and Bailey Zellers' long-jump and triple-jump sixths at 11-5 (PR).
